*means i already got the film but doesn't have the time to watch it yet.

Damn.. Am i that lazy?
These films above are not in my list because i haven't got the chance to watch 'em. Therefore, the list below could change prior to my verdicts on the films above.

Mmmkay then. (*cough cough*). Here it is..

Honorable Mentions :

World's Greatest Dad
(What a fun fucked up film! No one saw it comin. Black comedy at it's best)

Soundtrack For A Revolution
(Awesome American civil rights lecture by some soulful singin grandmas & grandpas!)

Two Lovers
(Plain and simple an honest drama about mature love. It is good. But i don't like it much. Maybe if Wong Kar-Wai directed this it would be something else..Oh yeah,it's a great goodbye performance by Joaquin Phoenix)

Up
(Pixar films are never fails, but this one lack a distinctive edge for me)

Avatar (3D)
(MY EYES! MY EYEEEEEEEEES! AM I HIGHHHHH???!!!! GOOOOODDDD!!)

Sherlock Holmes
(It's worth seeing even if it's only to watch Robert Downey being cocky with a thick British Accent)

Julie & Julia
(Meryl Streep + Amy Adams + LOTS of delicious foods! what more could you ask for?)

Watchmen
(The story, the style and the violence just blew me away)

Funny People
(Even if it disappointed everyone to be THE monumental comedy film of our generation that it should be, it was still good. Just good though)

Coco Before Chanel
(A romantic feminist drama of a woman struggling to find who she loves & what she loves to do. The fashion in the film is just a feast for the eyes, not the main issue of the film.)

Looking For Eric
(The guy is seeing Eric Cantona everytime he's high..who doesn't?)

The Answer Man
(Great casts (Daniels!Pucci!Thirlby!Dennings!), great plot, even though a little sketchy towards the end, it still works..)

MY FAVORITE FILM OF 2009!

"Ich heisse Superfantastisch! Ich trinke Schampus mit Lachsfisch!"

Apakah kalian nonton Franz Ferdinand pada tanggal 14 November nanti?
Jujur, anda akan rugi kalau tidak.
Saya di sini hanya ingin mengingatkan anda bahwa band monumental pada abad ini yang tidak pernah gagal untuk membuat pendengar nya berdansa akan datang, dan belum tentu kita mempunyai kesempatan lain untuk menonton mereka secara langsung.

"The NME said that the band was the latest in the line of art school rock bands featuring The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Who, Duran Duran, Roxy Music, the Sex Pistols, Wire and Blur."

Terima kasih.

CD SALE!

Aksara Kemang is having a CD clearance sale right now. It'll end on the 27th of September.

I had the chance to visit the store last night with my mom. I have to bring her with me because i knew that i'll buy lots of CDs. And when my mom's around, i can beg her for things face-to-face, which usually works much much better than begging through the phone. Oh, yeah, and my debit card got swallowed by the frickin ATM! That's another reason why to bring a mom to a sale.

These are the things i bought and how much i bought it for :

Lindstrøm "Where You Go I Go Too" (Rp. 50.000)
Where You Go I Go Too is the first studio album from Norwegian electronica musician Hans Peter Lindstrøm. I've been hearing nothing but good things about this guy, so i'll give it a try. The album contains three songs, the first song is a 30 minutes long psychedelic electronica, but i haven't listened to the songs thoroughly so i can't give you a descent review right now. Maybe i'll update this post later.

The S.I.G.I.T. "Hertz Dyslexia EP" (Rp. 60.000)
Finally some new tunes by the Indonesian rock'n'roll giant, and finally i bought it because it was out of stock in some of the store i've looked.
Well, what can i say about the EP? it's heavier, it's more complex, it's show the band's range of musical compability which we didn't found in their debut. And the live DVD is so much more than you ask for in the EP. 14 songs and decently shot, awesome.

Vivian Girls "Self Titled" (Rp. 75.000)
MY FAVORITE GIRLS FROM BROOKLYN! they are raw, they are fun and they are awesome. These girls would make you want to start a band. Maybe because their instruments skill is worse than yours, but their songwriting skills is better than yours.
In their debut, the raw music writing with in-your-face attitude like "Tell The World" and "No" mixed with the grainy sounds to support their cutesy punk attitude is why you'll love them. And the song "Where Do You Run To" will be one of your favorite indie rock ballads alongside YYY's "Maps" and Arctic Monkeys' "505".

The Tough Alliance "A New Chance" (Rp. 50.000)
The third LP from the Swedish based electronic giant is just pure awesome dance music. The band who started the breezy electronic sounds from the Scandanavian land which is Sincerely Yours Records, is definitely worth to check out. They have brought us one of the brightest and cheekiest electronic acts with the likes of The Honeydrips, jj and Air France. Unfortunately, the copy that i bought doesn't have the same cover from the one i put above, which is a bummer because the cover above is so awesome. I got the Australian version which have colorful barcode on the cover.

---

The last but not least is a gift from me to one of my dearest friend of all, Herta. Because this is a gift, i would not include the price of the product that i'm going to list.

The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart "Self Titled" (12" Vinyl)
Do you remember a time when you were foolishly in love that you would pour your heart out by singing along to your ex-favorite melodramatic band's songs? Well ,you'll feel that exactly like that when you're listening to Pains' debut. It feels like you have already loved their songs when you were younger and now you're reminiscing that twee and sweet-heart feeling. Who doesn't love being in love? So listen to their debut if you want to fall in love all over again with your adolescent love.

PHOENIX!

"The new and awesome Phoenix Line-up with 3 Indonesian groupies..(hot groupies btw..)"

Yep...when Phoenix came to Jakarta, they recruited me as the new member of the band..
I'm the one in the middle..because i am the leader of the band..
wkwkwkwkwkwkwkwk..

"Merchandises on The Table"

On the 1st of August 2009, me and some of my friends met Phoenix in Aksara Bookstore Kemang. It was a meet & greet session and it was open for public..so every indonesian who is a die hard Phoenix fan were probably there..

They came through the Bookstore's door at 1 PM..
And the first people that they ran into was me and my friends..
We were in total shock when they came in!
Everybody in the bookstore were in total shock!
There was this short awkward silence in the store as they smoothly came in through the door, everybody was looking at the four Parisian boys but done nothing but froze out.
Fortunately, we unfroze ourselves by welcome them by their in their native language.. "Bounjour!" we said.. and the band starts smiling real wide and shake all of our hands..
"Ca va?" Branco said (i think)
"Ca va bien, merci!" we said..At that moment we were all glad that our school taught us French..

"Deck strolling through the bookstore lookin all weirded out when the awkward silence occured"

Finally, the band got to their table to start the meet & greet session.
After the guy who was in charge told the instructions and started the session, nobody walked towards the band. Nobody moved for a split second.

"What The Heck! Just Do It!" said my mini-me with a halo on his head who were sitting on my right shoulder.

Then, i walk towards the band and we communicate.

They love Jakarta, but Branco said that "We haven't eat" (i think that's what he said, but it doesn't make sense..their accent is too thick for me to understand..)

And they said that 2009 have been a blast..

Christian's favorite album of 2009 so far : Dirty Projector's "Bitte Orca"

Christian's favorite song from Bitte Orca : "Two Doves"

Branco said that he didn't read his Interview with Grizzly Bear's Ed Droste, but i did.

And Branco asked my favorite album of 2009 so far : Of course i said that WAP is my favorite, so he wanted to know my second favorite, and i answered Grizzly Bear's "Veckatimest".

Then, they all signed my IPod, and i said "Merci à tous"

After i've finished my conversation with the band, my friends came up to them with their home-made Phoenix T-shirts.

"After i've finished my conversation with the band, my friends came up to them with their home-made Phoenix T-shirts."

After Global TV interviewed them (we waved at them during their interview, and Chris waved back to us, awesome), we stayed in the bookstore, hopin to get more glimpse of the Parisian boys before we watch them in concert later that night. We waited by the exit door, so they'll see us as the walked out. And that was just what happened, as they walking out, we said "Au Revoir" to all of them, and i said "have a good stay here in Jakarta!" suddenly, Thomas Mars stopped, see me in the eye and said "Thank you!" and then he continued to walk (O__o).

The last guy to walked out was Branco, he noticed a cheeky Aksara "Recycled" bag, he asked how much is it but the store gave it to him for free.
Before he walked out, i said "bye Branco, i'll be seeing you tonite!"
He replied "Well, i'll see you too! where you'll be standing tonight? which side of the stage will you be standing tonight?"
Whoa! i wasn't expecting this reply from him, i never thought that he would took my random ramble seriously! so i said to him "i'll probably standing on front of the stage, on the middle."
"okay then! i'll see you tonight!" he said while tapped my shoulder.

"Branco asking me (the hand with no head is my hand) where will i be standing in the crowd of the concert later that night"

It's a blessing for the people of Indonesia from entertainers around the world by still willing to perform after all the terror that occurred in our country. And it's a chance of a lifetime to meet and watch international musicians in our country.
Thank you Phoenix, thank you.

"Yeah, i want to do some dancing too."

Summer jams of 2009- 1st song

Girls - "Hellhole Ratrace"

Im sick and tired of the way that i feel,
im sick of dreaming and its never for real.
im all alone with my deep thoughts.
im all alone with my heartache and my good intentions.

i work to eat and drink and sleep just to live,
feels like im never getting back what i give.
ive got a sad song in my sweet heart.
and all i really am is needing some love and attention.

and i dont want to cry my whole life through,
i want to do some laughing too.
so come on, come on, come on, come on, laugh with me.
and i dont want to die without shaking up a thing or two,
yeah, i want to do some dancing too.
so come on, come on, come on, come on, dance with me.

sometimes youve just gotta make it for yourself.
sometimes sugar, it just takes someone else.
sometimes youve just gotta make it for yourself.
sometimes baby, you just need someone else.

This is (one of the reasons) why i love Beach House so much!

These guys are Beach House
and i love them very dearly
and this is (one of the reasons) why

When they were traveling on a train in Norway, some Norway TV journalists with their video crew ask them to write them a song on the spot and play it for them.
The first words from the lyric sounds like they bitch out for being disturbed mid-journey by this project ("We were sleeping 'til you came along..."), but it winds up being just a nice, sepia-tinged Beach-y sing along. (thx stereogum)
This video is their on the spot performance of the song "Norway" in the central train station in Oslo

But in the SXSW festival this year, the song that i thought was just a little unimportant song that they had to make for the journalists turns out to be a wonderful song!

AWESOME GUYS! can't wait for some more awesome tunes!

(One of) THE GREATEST MOMENT OF MY LIFE!

This guy is Edward Droste. He is the founder/singer of the band Grizzly Bear .
Grizzly Bear is one of my favorite band of all time.
But I'm not going to talk about him or Grizzly Bear right now..I can do that later.
Right now, I am very happy, because i just experienced an unforgettable event that i'll never forget. Don't care if you think that this is lame or something, but this event matters to me.

I twitt (is twitt a thing? whatever), just like some of you.
I twitt to have fun and to know what is goin on in my heroes' life
(heroes : family, friends, musicians, film makers, whatevs).
So, i've been following Ed Droste's twitter updates and he is my favorite guy on twitter.

Today, i was feeling excited to watch Grizzly Bear playing a new song live from Late Night Show with David Letterman. But unfortunately they got bumped, and i got sad.
I Expressed my sadness by dedicated some of my twitter updates to Ed Droste.
But, when the excitement and the sadness got mixed, it made me a little bit nuts. Suddenly, i said some stupid things to Ed (@EdwardDroste, read from bottom to top).

Suddenly, a miracle happened!

WTF!??!!??!
Here's an overview look on the situation, READ FROM BOTTOM TO TOP!

So, a little thing called twitter made a teenager from Indonesia got a "wassup + a wink" from his hero.

"So what so what? So fine so fine!"

These cute girls are Telepathe , and they're fuckin awesome!
Just listen to their debut LP, Dance Mother, and you'll be trippin without a doubt!
This is "So Fine", a single from their debut. And of course the song is soo fine..
Look out for Chairlift's hot vocalist, Caroline Polachek at 2:58!

"I found her in a dream, looking for me"

The Big Pink is my favorite new band from Britain!
Watch Out for their debut LP later this year.
The first song that i dug is "A Brief History Of Love", and it's my favorite.
And this is "Velvet", their latest single

"We didn't sign up for this..I'm Done.." Yeah Wolfie! you're done professionally..

Me and my friends were so excited to watch the thing..We came to the Theatre with high expectation.
But our verdict on the movie are the same..Wolverine was utter crap!

Well, it is the typical superhero movie with all the usual ingredients (all the cheesy and cliche ingredients indeed). But it was all bleak, makes no sense, with all the total cliche shit from all superhero movies combined. I felt nothing when i watched it. No emotion, no excitement, no sense of awesomeness.
I laughed through most of the fighting scene..especially the ones with Will.I.Am..how the hell that talentless fucker get a gig in an X-Men franchise? and the Gambit jump from the roof, totally unnecessary.
Well, except the first Logan and Victor encounter at the bar..that was awesome..oh, (spoiler)and all the scene with Ryan Reynolds before he transformed into the most forgettable villain EVER.

You can see it clearly by comparing this crap with the cliche but well crafted Spiderman franchise..Wolfie came nowhere near the friendly neighborhood..

This movie was supposed to be all the greatness of the iconic character and all the glory to superhero film genre.

I was expecting a little bit of Dark Knight drama but Logan was so emo, a little bit of Iron Man unforgettable portrayal but Logan was angry all the time, a little bit of Spidey well crafted screenplay but this is a total garbage..

Because the last movie I saw before this was Watchmen, the experience made me craving to watch watchmen again..

So,it was a waste of time and a waste of 25.000 Rupiah..
Wait for Crank : High Voltage to hit theatre if you wanna experience a no brainer action tour de force..

GRAND

AWESOME video for Matt & Kim's "Lesson Learned" from their new album "Grand"..

They're this couple (on and off stage) that play a little punk and electronic, just like the case with Mates Of States..except they're younger and more energetic and raw and all..

Oh yeah..and they smile all the time!

"I got a freeway in mind, let go of my head. Walk down my line better be sure you'll be there"

I only got two Kurt Vile songs and they share the same lyric.

In "Beach On The Moon", he play soothing acoustic guitar licks filled with smooth vocals, you can almost picture him jamming his guitar and just singing his guts out through a night road trip through a desert.
In "Freeway", the day road trip through the desert begins.
He mix a psychedelic rock jam (or maybe a more folk-ier Of Montreal kind of vibe) with his Bob Dylan-esque vocals that sounds like he's dragging his voice..the mix works gloriously. This is probably one of my favorite jam of 2009..

Kurt Vile - "Freeway" Download
Kurt Vile - "Beach On The Moon" Download

Oh, but wait, he already released his debut album last year but it was on limited release. His debut, "Constant Hitmaker" got reissued this year (like the case of Bon Iver's reissued debut kind of thing).

Hope i'll hear more great things this year for Kurt Vile..

P.S.
i've been imagining this night road trip through a desert because of The Go-Getter..
and this road trip is filled with conversation between me and Zooey D about communicating with animals..
and she's wearing a head lamp.

"Each and every man under my command owes me one hundred Nazi scalps, and I want my scalps! "

INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS is in Vanity Fair!
Can't wait for Lieutenant Aldo Raine and the boys to kill some Nazis..
INGLOURIOUS is going to compete in this year's Cannes Film Festival (13-24May).
People who have read the script said that it's really really good. I hope the film will do good too, and maybe Quentin will win a Palm D'or again for this..

"Brangelina got one, Maddona got one, now Brüno got one.."

Red band trailer for the new Sacha Baron Cohen's (Borat) "Brüno"!
Everyone pissed their pants when a footage was shown at SXSW last month. ThePlaylist said that Brüno makes Borat like a child's play.
I'm going to watch Borat again..

"The Cyclist Who Projects Wonders To The Sky"

These are portraits of my good friend, Lalu.
Yes, he could only watch as crooks were jacking his goddam car!

His house is the boys base camp.
We often watch movies in his room with LCD projector that projected to the ceiling.
He rides bicycle to school.
He's a funny guy.

This is a mixdisc that i made for him. I already gave it to him yesterday.
This is supposed to be my b'day gift for him (his B'day was two weeks ago). Hope he likes it..

"To die by your side, is such a heavenly way to die."

THE SMITHS
"There Is A Light That Never Goes Out"

Take me out tonight
where there's music and there's people
who are young and alive
driving in your car
I never never want to go home
because I haven't got one anymore

Take me out tonight
because I want to see people
and I want to see life
driving in your car
oh please don't drop me home
because it's not my home, it's their home
and I'm welcome no more

And if a double-decker bus
crashes in to us
to die by your side
is such a heavenly way to die
and if a ten ton truck
kills the both of us
to die by your side
well the pleasure, the privilege is mine

Take me out tonight
take me anywhere, I don't care
I don't care, I don't care
and in the darkened underpass
I thought Oh God, my chance has come at last
but then a strange fear gripped me
and I just couldn't ask

Take me out tonight
oh take me anywhere, I don't care
I don't care, I don't care
driving in your car
I never never want to go home
because I haven't got one
no, I haven't got one

And if a double-decker bus
crashes in to us
to die by your side
is such a heavenly way to die
and if a ten ton truck
kills the both of us
to die by your side
well the pleasure, the privilege is mine

There is a light that never goes out

///

Just look at the glorious photo of The Smiths in their glorious years of the 1980s.
You gotta love that Rickenbacker 330 that Johnny is holdin.

I really love the lyric that Morrisey wrote for the song, especially the "double-decker"-and-"ten ton truck"-crashes-into-them part. The part shows his masterful wit that he slips in between this ballad-ful (i know that is not a word) song.

And this glorious brand new trailer for "500 Days Of Summer" will make you wanna listen to this glorious song, Especially for the boys who is craving for the Zooey D lovin. Damn you Ben fuckin Gibbard, what a really really lucky guy!

Look out for the lead actor in "500 Days Of Summer"! His name is Joseph Gordon-Levitt, and he is going to be HUGE! and he reminds me of Heath Ledger.

P.S. I am truly sorry for my glorious thingy, it's because i am feeling glorious. Man Utd just bruttaly defeated Fulham 4-0, and i just bought a new Nike Tiempo Mystic II FG! Yaay!

"I DRINK YOUR MILKSHAKE! I DRINK IT UP!"

It was my second time watching "There Will Be Blood" today, Star Movies aired it. After the second time watching, I've decided that TWBB is Paul Thomas Anderson's best.

I am a fan of P.T. Anderson's works since my first experience watching "Punch-Drunk Love" which i really love so much. Somehow, Paul managed to changed the dorky Adam Sandler into this sweet and mysterious person in the film. It is a very good film, Paul crafted a unique harmony in all the elements that build up this brilliant film. The score, acting, cinematography, color tones and script are somehow work together in a weird way and make this film feel beautifully uplifting in a subliminal way. After "Punch-Drunk Love" I've watched "Magnolia" which i really love too. And after those magnificent movie watching experience, I've decided to watch TWBB for the first time on DVD.

Twenty minutes into the film, suddenly i was unconscious for a little while, i think it was because i felt tired that day. After the little nap, i watched the film while standing up on the floor too get the sleepiness away from my head. After i had refreshed myself, i tried to sit nicely while enjoying the film, but the weird thing was, i couldn't laid my body back, the high tension that the film gave made me sat straight up throughout the film.

The film tells a story about a greedy successful oilman named Daniel Plainview (portrayed by the brilliant Daniel-Day Lewis) who have struggled through hard times to be a successful but independent oil driller in America. Daniel Plainview character is the centrepiece of this film, his wild attitude and outrageous behaviour goes along with his greed and disbelieve on anyone except himself. Other actors like Paul Dano who did a great job portraying a crazy preacher made this film felt more true. The film have a great cinematography(that won Oscar) and scoring that play a big part in this slow paced gripping tale. P.T. Anderson crafted the perfect blend for one of the most chilling character driven film.

If you want to watch P.T. Anderson's best film, Daniel-Day Lewis' greatest film role of his life (Won Oscar for the role) and the first important role in Paul Dano's career, Watch the movie! download it or buy it. you would not regret it, trust me.

UPDATE : I wrote this a week ago, i forgot to post it. Right now, i am watching TWBB again, but this time i'm only pay attention when my favorite scenes are on.

"Don't you try to shoot up the sky, tonight, we'll stay alive"

These guys are The Pains of Being Pure at Heart. They are from Brooklyn, New York, and they are pure awesomeness. They play a great mix of shoegaze/noise pop/twee. Well, nevermind about what they sound like, they're just awesome. They've just released their self titled album on 3rd February, and it's really good.

I've been listening to their album a lot, and it is one of my favorite 2009 music releases after Animal Collective's "Merriweather Post Pavilion". Well, i have not listen to Bon Iver's "Blood Bank", but i will give a listen to it soon.

P.S. : Peggy Wang (the only girl in the band) work for Buzzfeed , a blog site that post pop culture thingy. I visited the site today and found this disturbing picture of Rihanna's beaten up face.

Well, now i know that Chris Brown is a fag, don't let his fancy dancing fool ya, he's a fag!
